When the weather turns wintery, it’s always fun to brighten up an ordinary outfit with a colorful coat and accessories! I found this hat when I was making my Rosé All Day gift guide, and couldn’t *not* buy it. It’s even cuter in person, and I know I’ll be wearing it all winter long for a much-needed pop of color on these dreary, gray Chicago days. But today’s post is really all about the shoes, so let’s chat my favorites this season…

1. Tall Ankle Booties
Whether they’re sock booties (where the top of the boot is very fitted to your leg) or just taller than your average ankle bootie, you’re going to want some length on your legs this season. I’ve been loving the sock bootie trend (see this post & this post for my favorite lucite-heeled booties), but now that it’s gotten colder, sock booties aren’t all that practical with skinny jeans. They look great with skirts, cropped jeans, and even with tights, but skinny jeans are tough since they’re both fitted around the ankle.
My shoe closet was seriously lacking in the bootie department so I just picked up these taller ankle boots from Nordstrom and I couldn’t be more in love with them! They’re perfect with jeans, but you could for sure wear them with tights, too. They come in five different colors and fabrics, and I’m seriously considering another pair. But just a note on sizing… I’m typically an 8.5, but decided to size up from the reviews. I have a wide foot and since the toe is narrow, I sized up a full size and I’m so glad I did. (I’m wearing a 9.5, but I don’t think they look that much bigger on my feet than my other booties do!)
I don’t always like the look of black booties with dark blue jeans and sometimes cognac doesn’t go with my outfit and I’m out of bootie options… What I’m wearing here, for example! I knew this grey suede pair would be perfect. (Don’t forget your protector/repellent spray, though!) I actually just got this pair in bronze (on sale!) and they’re so fun… But again, size up. I got a 9!
2. Slides & Loafers
You know I love my mules! If you’re somewhere that’s a bit warmer than Chicago, you can still rock these well into the winter months. You know, as long as there isn’t snow on the ground or something. 😉
3. Over-the-Knee
While OTK boots may have started as a trend, they’ve stuck around as a classic style! You’ve got to have a pair in your closet by now. You can wear them over skinny jeans, with tights, or with a skirt or a dress… To the office or out, depending on your outfit… Dates, dinners, parties, brunch… They’re just as versatile as your booties or knee boots. Must Have!
4. Velvet, Glitter, & Embellished
Maybe my favorite trend of all! I am absolutely L-O-V-I-N-G all of the velvety, glittery, sparkly, and full-on embellished shoes this season. Love, love, love. Slides, sneakers, heels, booties, all of the above. I’ll take one of each! Statement shoes are where it’s at right now.
5. White + Red
Both white booties and red booties are all the rage right now! I haven’t invested in a pair of either, but I do love the look of both. Personally, I’m just not sure how much wear I would get out of them. For a red pair, I do think they’d be so cute for a Bulls or Blackhawks game with black skinnies, a white tee, and a black moto jacket. But seeing as I’ll probably only go to a handful of games this season, I haven’t justified it yet.
I love the mod look of white booties… It’s so fun with an all black and white outfit. But again, not sure how much use I would get out of them.

Great recommendations! I haven’t found a mule that has stolen my heart yet but I am eyeing the one on your list. Btw, your pink jacket is gorgeous. I love the pop of color!
Love love the outfit and all the styles you linked! Especially the boots, there are so many colors!
