Fresh Florals

floral skirt over the knee boots

I shared one of my favorite pieces on the blog on Monday, but this print is my absolute favorite from the spring collection. Hands down! I actually found this fabric over a year ago when I was combing through fabric samples for this past fall’s collection. I was instantly obsessed, but it didn’t seem right with the rest of what I had picked for fall. So I latched onto that fabric card for dear life for a good 6 months until it came time to figure out spring! I wanted to take this fabric and make it into multiple skirts, dresses, tops, and jackets, but Evine Live had to reel me in a bit. We settled on a fit and flare skirt (my favorite) and a slightly A-Line dress (another favorite silhouette of mine)! But MAN OH MAN, I am still dreaming of this fabric in a cute, kind-of-boxy jacket with black piping. It gives me goose bumps just thinking about it. Spring 2017?! A girl can dream!

I’m all about a wear-with-everything, multi-colored print! These types of prints just make getting dressed E-A-S-Y. For whatever reason, prints tend to scare some people off.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, “That looks great on you, but I could never pull that off.” WRONG. You just have to figure out what works best for you… You can let the printed piece do the talking by wearing with a matching color that you find within the print, or you can make a statement by wearing a bold coordinating color or even mixing prints. Or just pair the print with solid neutrals and a fun pop of color with your bag, jewelry, or lipstick and you’re totally safe! Of course, it’s essential to have solids in your wardrobe, but let’s think of it in another way that we can all relate to… If solids are your foundation, or must-haves in the food pyramid, prints are the spices that make everything a bit more flavorful! (Leave it to me to make a food reference. Remember when I said the inner pocket of this jacket “was large enough to hold a sandwich” on live television? #FacePalmEmoji I was just hungry, what can I say?!)

But back to the skirt

This print is so, so perfect for the transition from winter to spring! It’s supposed to hit the 50’s in Chicago this weekend (an actual miracle!) and I’m already planning on wearing this skirt with a black cashmere turtleneck (tucked in) and my black suede OTK boots on Saturday night for a girlfriend’s birthday party.

Come springtime and warmer temperatures, I love it paired with a crisp white blouse and nude pumps to the office, a black and white striped tee for a weekend brunch, a blush-pink sweater, a mauve-hued blazer… The options are truly ENDLESS!

In fact, I wanted to share just how versatile this skirt really is so I did a quick 3-minute styling session inside of my own closet to show that it pairs with just about every single color of the rainbow, and then some! If you’re on Snapchat, add me — ‘jessicasturdy’ is my username! The story will be live until 11:30pm CST tonight, Wednesday 2/17.
