My Fall Fashion Shopping List

Fashion blogger Jessica Sturdy shares her 2023 Fall Fashion Shopping List

Ahh fall shopping… Is there anything better?? Lord knows I love summer, but fall is almost just as great in other ways. My second favorite season, for sure. And honestly, fall fashion is one of the reasons I love the season so much. Especially this year! I’m obsessed with a lot of the fall trends, which honestly hasn’t been the case in the past few seasons.

Here’s a look at what’s currently on my shopping list, as well as what I’ve already purchased for the season ahead…

Denim Midi Skirt

I got this Madewell skirt this month in my Rent the Runway shipment to try out the style. (You can use my link to get 40% off your first month of RTR!) Turns out, I *love* the denim midi skirt style. I’m in a weird in-between size right now and there’s nothing worse than something being too small, so I tend to order on the larger size. I ordered a size 29 and it’s unfortunately a bit too big. Fine for wearing a couple of times before sending back to RTR, but not for keeping. (I belted it with a tight belt in this picture!) If you’re trying to find your size, Shopbop and Nordstrom carry it, too.

Sadly, I couldn’t find my correct size in stock so I went out searching for similar denim midi skirt styles with a front slit. For me, the front slit is key to keeping from looking like a character from Little House on the Prairie!

Anthro $168 | Pistola $158 | Rolla’s $129 | COS $120 | Aqua $98 | Free People $98 | Abercrombie $80 | Express $78 | Mango $60

I ended up ordering this one from Old Navy (currently 30% off!) and I’m obsessed. It’s more of a MIDI, whereas the Madewell version is more of a MAXI. They’re both so cute and I can’t wait to style them! Stay tuned.

Update: I’ve now secured the Madewell version in a size 28 and it’s perfect. Don’t mind having both!

Brown & Camel Bags

For the last few years as I’ve been gravitating more towards brown in my wardrobe, my LV Speedy (circa 2007) was the only brown handbag I had. Well, I do have this light brown bag that I love and wear often, but I was in the market for more of a chocolate-colored bag. I’m obsessed with the Bottega Veneta Small Andiamo Bag, but can’t see myself splurging on a bag anytime soon so I had to find something more inexpensive to fit the bill.

I ended up ordering this $40 chocolate cutie (it’s buttery soft in person!) and this little guy (only $60) in ‘orange’ with a gold buckle. It’s more of a cognac color in person, which will be great for all seasons! I also have this chocolate leather crossbody (that’s on major sale) in my cart.

While I definitely went with budget-friendly buys, there are a few bags in the mid-price range that I absolutely love. This slouchy suede bag ($398) is at the top of my list! This Tory Burch bag is pretty pricey, but I adore the shape and beautiful mocha color. If I was going to semi-splurge, this Gucci bag would be my go-to. More brown bags I love in the widget below…

Silver Bag & Shoes

I shared more in this post, but I really want to get a silver bag and a pair or two of shiny silver shoes. I love these ballet flats and these pointed toe slingbacks!

I had my heart set on this J.Crew bag, but sadly, the silver has already sold out. This bag and this bag are the new ones I have my eye on.

Satin Midi Skirt

I’ve ordered a few satin midi skirts to try and ended up returning this one from Amazon and keeping this one from Old Navy in the champagne color. I’m tempted to order both the pink and the black, too! $39.99 regularly and an extra 30% off. Can’t beat it – the fit is pretty good for my body shape! Not too tight on the hips. I have a Medium.

I’m also very interested in this Quince 100% Washable Silk Skirt, this one from J.Crew, and this skirt from Madewell!

Plaid Blazer

What’s more quinessentially fall than a preppy plaid blazer?! I’m obsessed with this one from Madewell. It’s a must-have for me. I also adore this one by J.Crew. For a budget-friendly find, try this one from Old Navy. A few others I like in the widget below…

Lady Jackets

Since a longer black cardigan was also on my list, I decided to order this jacket from J.Crew to feed two birds with one scone. (Dave’s co-worker came up with that to be less cruel to birds! I like it, haha.)

I have this cream cardigan with oversized buttons that sort of fits the bill, but I still want a shorter lady jacket or two though! I’m just obsessed. I adore our place, but MAN – I need a bigger closet.

J.Crew has the best selection in my opinion, but Shop One Third is a great place to shop to support a local female-founded business.

I’ve also linked some more budget-friendly finds from Amazon in the widget below… A few worth noting: this jacket for $100, this blazer for $47, and this tweed jacket for $70.

Cool Girl Sneakers

I couldn’t be happier that there are so many trending pairs of sneakers at the moment! I’ve always been a sneaker gal at heart, but my feet really appreciate getting to choose comfort these days.

Adidas Sambas

Did you ever think you’d be wearing Adidas Sambas again?! They’re back in a big way. Personally, I think these tonal styles are a lot easier to wear and pair with your daily outfits, not just athleisure.

Adidas Gazelles

Adidas Gazelles are another retro sneaker style that’s trending! Your hardest decision will be deciding which color to order.

New Balance 327s

I already have this pair of New Balalnce 327s and have these on pre-order in a chocolate brown color. They are SO comfortable! Admittedly, they’re hard to find in-stock, but it seems like Nordstrom has the widest selection of sizes at the moment!

Reeboks

The Reebok Club C 85 sneaker is another shoe that’s been on my wish list for the last few seasons! They’ve got a vintage look, but they’re a classic style.

Cute Socks

Cute little socks with sneakers, loafers, and flats are all the rage right now. I’m still browsing for more, but I’ve already bought a pack of these and liked them a lot. $15 for 6 pairs!

Leather Clothing Pieces

It isn’t Fall without a few touches of leather or faux leather! I believe the preferred term is now vegan leather. I’ve yet to do my due diligence with trying some of these pieces on, but I’ll share a few things that have caught my eye so far…

$59 Steve Madden Top | $65 Lele Sadoughi Headband | $85 Lele Baseball Cap | $88 ASTR Skirt | $89 Good American Tank | $99 Madewell Pant | $115 Pixie Market Skirt | $118 Splendid Shorts | $138 WAYF Blazer | $148 J.Crew Pencil Skirt | $195 Good American Blazer | $218 Commando Trouser | $229 Paige Black Jeans | $229 Paige Chestnut Jeans | $268 Susana Monaco Blazer | $278 J.Crew Blazer | $290 Amanda Uprichard Dress

Crystal-Embellished Ballet Flats

I bought the now sold-out Mango pair in a size 9 instead of an 8.5, as I sometimes have to size up in narrow ballet flats. Sadly, I had to return them as they were too big and kept slipping off. So I’m still on the hunt!

I love how this style of ballet flats will seamlessly take you into holiday party season! I feel like they’re those types of ‘shiny ponies’ that will be in your closet forever.

These Khaite flats put the crystal-embellished mesh flats on the map! This pair by Loeffler Randall is the cutest, but still kind of pricey for what I’m trying to spend. And they keep selling out everywhere! This is the only place I can find with a full size run in-stock. BUT I just found this pair by Jeffrey Campbell for half the pricee and fell in love! Definitely ordering.

Leopard Print Handbags

Not currently on my shopping list, as I’ve already crossed off not one, but two leopard handbags. I got this cute (removable) crossbody by Ganni and this adorable top-handle bag by Neely & Chloe for Talbots.

Cream Sweaters

I feel like I’m always reaching for cream sweaters that I don’t have. You know? That staple piece that my closet is missing. I recently got this cashmere sweater in ivory because I had store credit at a boutique in the suburbs, but I’m on the hunt for some everyday washable pieces, too.

I also need more variety in necklines… I feel like I mostly have turtleneck and crewneck sweaters and want to bring in some more v-neck styles. This cable v-neck looks promising! This bomber cardigan looks HEAVENLY! This collared sweater looks nice, too.

Rain Jacket

LOL to this one, but I don’t have a proper rain jacket and I’m in need. (If I’m going to share my shopping list with you, I’m sharing the whole dang thing. 🤪) Any reccos?!

More Fall Shopping

Old Navy’s Fall Collection

Don’t sleep on the Old Navy New Arrivals if you’re shopping on a budget this season! And even if you’re not on a budget honestly?! Everything looks SO good.

I placed a decent-sized order over the weekend and grabbed some key fall-trend items. I got this denim midi skirt and this brown plaid mini skirt and love them both! They’re the only two pieces that have already been delivered, but I also got this collared camel cardigan sweater, this navy blazer, this cable knit sweater vest, this espresso brown cardigan, and this champagne-colored satin midi skirt. (And although not technically fall fashion, I also got these green activewear leggings to try out.)

A few more pieces from their fall collection I’ve got my eye on… This houndstooth bomber jacket, this suede sherpa vest, this soft-brushed shacket, this plaid blazer, and lots more in the widget(s) below! (There were too many products for just one!)

J.Crew New Arrivals

We all know my love for J.Crew runs deeeeep. I mean, I used to work there back in 2011. But I have to admit, it’s been a *minute* since my wish list has been a mile long. I’m thrilled that it feels like they’re *BACK!* Although my bank account is probably wishing they were still in their flop era…

Madewell New Arrivals

I’m obsessed with these chocolate brown jeans, omg! 😍 This brushed sweater looks divine — need to feel it for the itchiness factor, though. These coated jeans also look fab — love the black and brown styling. And how friggen cute is this knit bucket hat?! Adorbs. And this plaid baseball hat, are you kidding?? Need. I also love the colorway of these sneakers!!
