Hello from Japan! After spending the last week in Tokyo, we’re headed to Kyoto today and I couldn’t be more excited. While I absolutely love Tokyo, I’m ready to switch things up for a slower pace in Kyoto! (If you missed it, I’m still sick as a dog so I’m desperately crossing my fingers that a change of scenery will do me right.) We’re staying at a ryokan in Gion tonight, something we didn’t do on our last trip, so I’m looking forward to a totally new experience. I’ll be sharing a lot on Instagram stories, so be sure to follow along there! Additionally, I’ll be doing full trip recaps and travel guides after the trip, so do let me know if there’s anything specific you want to see.
Today, though, I wanted to share two outfits from Tokyo — one at my absolute favorite place to get sushi in Japan and one on the go (shot earlier this morning!) at Tokyo station. I ordered these blush pink sneakers right before the trip and they’ve been on repeat over the last week! I’ve styled them two ways in this post — two outfits that will work no matter if you’re traveling across the globe or simply taking a trip to Trader Joe’s.
When I was headed home from Coachella two weekends ago, I was making a mental packing list for my trip to Japan. I had just about 24 hours to unpack from a week in California, get everything in order, and pack again for two weeks in Japan. Frazzled would have been an understatement!
I realized my only sneakers that were cute enough to wear with regular outfits, but comfortable enough to be walking 20,000+ steps a day were black leather, and thus wouldn’t really match any of the springy outfits I was planning to pack. Zappos to the rescue!
I placed an order for these blush pink Timberland sneakers on Monday morning and got them before I was headed back to the airport on Wednesday afternoon. Nobody beats Zappos when it comes to freaky fast (and free!) shipping. If you know me, you know I am usually the last-minute type so their free next-day shipping has saved my ass been used in a pinch too many times to count!
I mulled over sneaker shades for far too long, but ultimately went with this light pink hue because I thought it would be the perfect pop for spring. (And would match the cherry blossoms in Japan, duh. 🌸) I loved the color even more when I opened the box! Depending on the light and what you’re wearing, they can look both nude and blush pink. Needless to say, they go with pretty much everything, which is a must when you’re trying to pack light! (Apparently I classify “light” as two suitcases, but hey — it’s a long trip.)
They’re super comfortable and haven’t required any break-in time so far. And we’ve walked A LOT! We’ve been averaging at least 15,000 steps a day so these puppies definitely have some milage on them already.

When Merritt and I were heading out the door to the Tsukiji Fish Market a few days ago, she couldn’t believe my sneakers were Timberland! Can you?! I love how feminine the blush color is and the style of the sneaker is definitely on-trend, too.
They’ve been the perfect compliment for so many outfits on the trip already! They look cute with both skinny jeans and cuffed boyfriend denim, which are two of my spring staples year after year. And as you can see, my weatherproof rain coat as been my go-to outerwear option, as the forecast has called for rain the past few days. ☔
I’ll be sharing more about Tsukiji Fish Market (where this second set of photos were taken!) on the blog soon… It’s hands-down the best sushi I’ve ever had. It was one of my favorite meals during my last trip to Japan, so visiting again was a non-negotiable for me! Thankfully Merritt was also on board. 🙂
Eating sashimi for breakfast may not always sound appetizing, but it’s the freshest fish you’ll ever find. And once you’ve got your fill, it’s so fun to walk through the market scoping out all of the other food, treats, and and housewares available. From mochi and fresh fruit to fish, beef, and dried fruit… Tsukiji has it all. You can also buy the most darling pottery, matcha to bring home, tea whisks and cans, etc. It’s definitely a must-visit for a Tokyo trip!
