Bombo Bar

Remember when we talked about finding your go-to spots in a new city a few weeks ago? Well, one of my favorite ‘tricks’ is to keep up with restaurant and bar openings. I read Eater every day (both Chicago and New York!) to try to stay up to speed with the latest and greatest. That way, you’ll seem like you know what the heck you’re talking about when it comes to new spots in the city, even if you’re less familiar with older spots. (No one will have the advantage of living in the city longer to try the new spot, you know?) And then you can slowly but surely work on crossing all of the notorious must-visit spots off your list.

One of my favorite new spots in the city is Bombo Bar, the walk-up coffee and doughnut shop right outside of Bar Siena in the West Loop. These aren’t your typical doughnuts though, they’re bombolonis. Yeah, I didn’t have any idea what that was either, but they’re an Italian hole-less donut. If you’ve ever had the mind-blowing doughnuts as dessert at Bar Siena, you’ve experienced the greatness! I actually don’t like your typical “filled” doughnuts, but these are nothing like those. They’re SO GOOD!! I’ve had the Salted Caramel, the seasonal Pumpkin, the Chocolate, and the Maple Buttercream… I can’t even pick a favorite. Maybe the salted caramel?! It’s a tough choice. Next up on my list is Peanut Butter & Jelly! I need to go scope out what their seasonal doughnut is this month… My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Their coffee is great, too! I haven’t tried the gelato, but I can only imagine how tasty it is. Plus, they have spiked hot chocolate so…. 🙂 #SeeYouThere

Sidenote: If you’re looking for a pair of all-day-long booties that won’t hurt your feet if you’re out from sun-up to sun-down, these scalloped booties are absolutely perfect! I was worried about them looking too low, or like a kitten heel or something, but they don’t feel (or look!) that way at all. Plus, the scalloped detail is just too cute. (They also come in a gorgeous green and a classic black!)
