sleeping in on staycation

Lately, my life has felt a bit like Carmen Sandiego. (And I mean that in less of a thieving villain way, and more of a “Where in the world is Jessica Sturdy?” kind of way.) Travel upon travel upon travel, with a bit more travel sprinkled on top. (In fact, I’m currently writing this from 30,000 feet above.) I’m definitely not complaining, I feel so unbelievably fortunate to be able to leave on a whim when exciting projects pop up. But holy moly, you guys. I am exhausted. I’ve been trying my best to soak up all of the sleep when I can, but it’s been challenging. In between trips, I have mile-long to-do lists filled with tasks that need to be done while I’m in Chicago. So when I’m home, it’s been go-go-go!

The biggest downside of back-to-back travel (for me) is not having enough time to get settled back in before you leave town again. You should see my apartment – it’s so far past the point of return right now that it’s humorous. I kind of feel like I’m living in a loading zone… Get home, pile clothes in front of my washer & dryer, throw shoes in closet, toss toiletry bag into the bathroom. And then admittedly, I’ve just been leaving my suitcase open to start filling it again. Oy vey! My apartment is in that state where it’s not even relaxing to be at home, because I look around and start to get anxiety about how long it’s going to take to get back on track. (It’s so bad that I didn’t let Hallie come over the other day. It’s so embarrassing.)

So needless to say, when Westin reached out a few weeks ago about staying at one of their Chicago hotels for a weekend in honor of World Sleep Day, I jumped at the offer! While I could have definitely used that weekend to get my apartment in order, it felt so incredibly luxurious to disconnect for a bit and spend two nights at a hotel, in a heavenly king-sized bed, and ordering room service from the new Sleep Well menu (healthy smoothies, fruit dishes, and green juices!) for breakfast. LIVING THE LIFE.

Staycations are vastly underrated, in my opinion. Zero planes, not much travel involved, but they truly feel like an escape from your typical day-to-day. And I mean, I’ll take just about any excuse to stay in a robe all day. Westin Weekends, y’all.

I love how the hotel is committed to wellness and healthy living. As someone who has been traveling up a storm, it’s so damn hard to stay on track with your healthy lifestyle when you’re away from home. It’s lovely when your home-away-from-home feels, you know, a little bit more homey.

So tell me – Have you taken a staycation to relax and refresh lately? Or do you have one coming up on the books? I highly recommend taking a little breather and booking one over the next few months!

As for a packing list, keep it simple. Grab a face mask, a packet of bath salts or bubble bath, your comfiest pajamas, and perhaps a bottle of sparkling rosé. 🙂

I haven’t had a staycation in DC yet, and I have been here 7 years! I have to go into the city and really relax away from home sometime soon!

Can you afford to hire an assistant? I’m exhausted from just reading that! lol. Would hate for you to get seriously sick/burn out.
