I try to keep things pretty light here on Bows & Sequins, but since you guys responded so well to this post, I hope you don’t mind me reaching out to you about a cause very near and dear to me. I normally don’t feel comfortable sharing this much about my personal life, especially when it’s on a not-so-happy note, but I figure spreading the word is the least I can do.
As some of you know, my mom was officially diagnosed with MS in 2009.ย I will be doing the “Climb of the Top” next weekend on March 3rd to support her and everyone else who is battling Multiple Sclerosis. I’ll be climbing the 66 flights of stairs to the top of the Rockefeller Center Observation Deck to help create a world without MS.ย The National Multiple Sclerosis Society will use funds collected fromย Climb to the Top to not only support research for a cure tomorrow, but also to provide programs which address the needs of people living with MS today.
It’s kind of ironic that this climb is to the “Top of the Rock.” The very first time I visited New York (November 2010), my parents and I took the elevator to the Top of the Rock for some nighttime views of the city! I’m hoping for gorgeous daytime views of the city after my climb next Sunday!
If you’re able, I’d be ever so grateful for your help in supporting the National MS Society!

I’m sorry to hear about your mom, but I think it is amazing what you are doing. Wishing you well on your climb along with everyone else that will joining you.
A close family member of mine does not have MS but was experiencing symptoms in which the doctor was suspecting of. In that time frame I researched MS and ALS and was educated on a topic I knew little about. Since then, I have added MS and ALS to my list of prayers each night hoping that a cure will be found. I am truly sorry your Mother is going through this. My mother is ill as well with another disease and it is hard to be the child and have to worry about your mother at a young age. Thank you for sharing your story. Your Mother will be in my prayers now as well. God Bless
So sorry to hear that your mom is battling this awful disease, but what a great way to raise awareness & help contribute to finding a cure!

Good luck with your climb and best of luck to you and your mom.
I am very sorry to hear that your Mom is battling this disease. I lost my Mom in July to a long fight with cancer. Good luck with your climb. I am glad to hear that the funds raised will not only go to researching a cure but to help those who are battling the disease right now. Thank you for sharing something so personal in your life. I will be praying for you and your Mom.
You will make those 66 flights you biotch for your momma! I’ll spread the word as well! xo

Thank you, Agi! I truly appreciate it. She is doing well for the most part… Obviously some days are better than others, but it’s a constant battle against the exhaustion and fatigue. My mom runs the show at my dad’s veterinary clinic and I think the most challenging part has been for her to learn to step away from work at times and take care of herself. I strive to imitate my mom’s work ethic!
I wish I could do the climb with you since this cause is so near and close to my heart. I’ll be thinking of you and praying for your mom ๐ xo
Lots of love for you and mama Sturdy. I’ll be cheering for you, lady!
Jessica, what an amazing cause! I am truly sorry your family has had to endure something like this; I understand how it feels, as I’ve had personal experience with family illnesses and its hard. However, I am so glad for events like this and I just know that you’ll doing amazingly! I’m routing for ya girl! Go get ’em! ๐

Your mom never lets this slow her down! She is amazing. She tolerates the bad days and soars on the great days!
You look like Amanda Seyfried in that bottom picture of you!
I’m so sorry to hear about you mom’s MS and I hope she is doing well. My mother was diagnosed with Lupus when I was little and I understand how it is to feel like you can’t do anything to help. I think the climb you’re doing sounds great! Best wishes to both of you!
