Easy Does It

spring outfit - jean jacket with floral printed shorts

Aaaahhh, the feeling of summertime. We’ve had a few days that have actually felt *hot* and I couldn’t be happier. Dating all the way back to grade school, summer has always evoked my most carefree and relaxed self. Even though I don’t get to take the summers “off” like I used to when I was growing up, New York takes on the summer season with a pretty relaxed vibe. A lot of companies, especially within the fashion industry, exercise “Summer Fridays,” in which the office closes down somewhere around 2p.m. on Fridays from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Amazing, right?! It gives everyone enough time to head out of town for the weekend, or run their errands in the city, and fully enjoy their summer Friday night. Or heck, even get to the park for a few hours of sunshine before dinnertime! When I lived in Chicago, I had never really heard about Summer Fridays, but I really think that any place who has to suffer through brutal winter months should embrace the Summer Friday mentality! Summer is sweet, but oh-so-short.

My relaxed summer vibe translates into my fashion and beauty choices 100%. I tend to let my hair air dry, I wear less makeup (primarily because I just end up sweating it off), and I take a laid-back approach to getting dressed. I rarely wear anything that’s “fussy” in the summer — easy does it. I prefer looser fits, draped fabrics, and relaxed silhouettes. Unless it’s a fancy occasion that calls for pumps, I’m almost always in some sort of walkable sandal. Comfort is key!

I picked up these swingy summer shorts at Old Navy and I am IN LOVE. I actually bought three pairs — another print and a solid brightly colored red/orange pair! The fit is perfect (FYI — I’m usually a 4/6 on bottom – 4 in Old Navy denim – and I’m wearing a Small.) and I feel like the style is great so for so many occasions — weekend brunch with the girls, a picnic in the park, a summer night spent sipping rosé alfresco, you name it. You can dress them up with a silk blouse, wear them with a basic tee, or toss on a denim jacket when the temperature dips down. Styling options are endless!

Three cheers for Summer nights, it’s definitely already been a scorcher here in Kentucky (days in the 90s) but today it’s in the 70s and it feels a little bit like heaven outside.

I’m actually quite excited that it’s cooler weather here again. I really am hot a fan of the heat and humidity of summer, so the cool, rainy, breezy weather is right up my alley. Loving this great transition look!
