When Fashion Week is the topic of conversation, weโre usually chatting about the clothes coming down the runway, the street style, the after-parties, the lack of sleep, the chaotic affairs of our apartments, etc. But have we talked about how freaking hard it is to pull yourself out of bed after 4 hours and make yourself look photo-ready, just in case Bill Cunningham is outside of Lincoln Center waiting to snap your photo? #agirlcandream (Actually, heย didย snap a photo of Hallie and I in September, but obviously that never surfaced anywhereโฆ)
By day 3, getting up and getting ready is already challenging for me. It kind of starts to feel like Groundhog Dayโฆ Get up, get ready, get dressed, get a cab to Lincoln Center. And since Iโm prone to oversleeping during Fashion Week, Iโve learned to get ready in a pinch.
Myย pull-yourself-together-quicklyย strategies revolve around one magical product โ dry shampoo. Given enough dry shampoo, Iโm pretty sure I could run the world. I hate washing my hair for a lot of reasons โ 1, it takes time; 2, my hair takesย for-ev-erย to dry; and 3, dry shampoo truly helps give that fresh look & feel from washing, but provides that extra texture for styling.
As you can probably tell, I pretty much only wear my hair straight or curly. If I have the time, I curl it. And if I donโt, I let it dry naturally and it gets pretty close to straight. Iโve tried to ditch the flatiron completely. I would love to branch out more, but the truth is โ I am terrible at doing different things to my hair. But in honor of Fashion Week and looking at things in a fresh, new way โ I went to the experts.
On Day 3 of NYFW, I swung by the TRESemmรฉโs Trend Bar & Salon at the tents and talked to TRESemmรฉ stylist, Tyler Laswell, to get some ideas for quick & easy styles that are perfect for Fashion Week! He showed me one way to get that messy I-didnโt-try-very-hard up-do and it truly only took about 10 minutes.
Hereโs how to get the look at home:
1. If youโre skipping a wash, grab your trusty TRESemmรฉ Fresh Start Dry Shampoo. I especially likeย TRESemmรฉโs new Fresh Start Renewing Dry Shampooย infused with Mineral Clay, to refresh and give my hair a lilโ pick-me-up.
2.ย ย ย Create two low ponytails at the base of your head. Begin fishtail braiding each ponytail and secure with a clear elastic at the end.
3.ย ย ย Pin up both fishtails in whichever organic way your hair moves and secure with bobby pins. Tyler criss-crossed my fishtail braids and left some end pieces out for a natural, undone not-too-polished look.
4.ย ย ย Finish off by mistingย TRESemmรฉ 24 Hour Body Finishing Sprayย for a flexible hold all day!

LOVE this! And it’s so simple! What a dream. Now I just need to learn to fishtail…easy enough, right?
Adore this hairstyle! Do you know if that dry shampoo is sulfate free? I’m really trying to cut down the amount of chemicals I put in my hair, but I”m highly intrigued by anything that has clay in it!

Love the braided style! If only I hadn’t chopped my hair off recently haha…
I’m also a huge fan of dry shampoo and honestly cannot believe I ever lived without it. Treseme is actually one of my favorite brands for the product (and I’ve tried A TON). Here’s a link to my review if you’re curious.. http://wp.me/p32SmO-2b

Love the look. Try casual updos from time to time, but they always look too stuffy or like a mess. Will have to give this one a try!

I understand. This post really struck a cord with me, as I struggle to branch out with more creative hair options. It feels like this untapped fashion resource! Your post has motivated me to work on my fishtail braid! Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks!

I like it, but is that a “do” YOU can do?
Where did you get that fabulous striped cardigan? I love it!
I feel like I never see you with your hair up (SoulCycle definitely does NOT count, haha) and it looks so cute!!! You should definitely try to do this more often ๐

Love this look! I too am guilty of styling my hair in the same two styles…everyday! What can I say, it’s easy and I’m lazy! ๐ Can’t wait to try this new style though!
