Note to Self: Go buy more jackets and stop wearing your denim jackets over EVERYTHING. Thanks.
But seriously, Kiley’s recent post seriously resonated. I think we are both serial jean jacket wearers!
I chose to dress down this emerald lace dress for work, but one of my girlfriends is actually borrowing it in a few weeks to wear to a wedding. Work day to wedding guest, now that’s what I call versatility!ย To make a lace dress office appropriate, add a casual jacket or blazer and opt for low key sandals. Pumps or sandals that are too dressy might make your ensemble look a little less work day and a bit more summer soiree. Make sure you keep in mind your office dress code, though… If open toes are off limits for you, pair your lace dress with a pair of chic ballet flats or cool oxfords instead!
PS – How fab are my DIY Jacks?! These babies started out all gold, but I painted the stitching fuchsia and added fun studs on the heels! Check out Grace’s post for more photos from the event!

Beautiful dress! And it does seem super versatile! With the jean jacket, its more casual, but I can see why your friend wants to borrow it for a wedding.

Couldn’t be more obsessed with this color combo! And the mix of textures – the lace dress under a tougher denim jacket is perfection. Obvi!
Also, figured I’d say hi to your dad here since he’ll probably read this. Hi Mr (& Mrs) S!
Totally obsessed with the colors and the jean jacket to dress down a flirty, lace frock! Love all.
I’ve been eyeing that dress at Nordstrom for a while now but it’s on back order! How is the sizing??
It’s true-to-size, maybe just a tad bit on the smaller side. I am wearing a 4!
Love the necklace! Mixing feminine lace with the more masculine jacket is such a cool contrast. xoLili

I have a few lace dresses that I like to try and make more work appropriate too! Usually I opt for a casual blazer, but a jean jacket is a great idea too!
I love this outfit, especially your one-of-a-kind shoes! The studs on the heels were a fabulous idea.

sigh. love this but work appropriate? well apparently not. Just concluded my interniship. Received all outstandings with only one comment- “no more booties” a reference to my suede, wedge booties- not my posterior. I wore to an offsite a calvin klein loose silk blouse and skinny loft pants. Guys wore jeans and polos. Even though I was covered from my neck to my toes the outfit was ‘scandalous’. It is hard to transition from college wear to work appropriate and blogs and mags that make it sound as if lace and leather and most current fashion is universally accepted i the workplace are just misleading. maybe if your day job is in fashion or advertising, but not your typical fortune 500. Nevertheless, love your look and I would so love that dress- for after work.
Hi Patricia,
Interested to hear where your internship was geographically! Having to moved to New York from the Midwest, I know that dress codes are MUCH more lax here in NYC than in Chicago. Luckily for me, my day job falls into fashion/advertising category so I can get away with more fashion-forward outfits at work.
Apologies if my blog is “misleading” in any way! I’m just dressing for my office, in the city that I live in. ๐
I know there are a plethora of “business casual” style blogs out there that focus on more “buttoned-up” looks for work. I encourage you to check those out for style inspiration at the office!
Best,
Jessica
That dress is gorgeous! And love your pink accents!
