Workout Wear 3 Ways

Besides the last 2 unbelievably busy weeks, I’ve been trying to exercise more. SoulCycle classes, walks in Central Park, Core Fusion Barre at Exhale, Pilates reformer (and the occasional mat) classes, hot yoga, and just hitting the regular ol’ gym… Anything but running, really! I’ve nailed down what I prefer to wear for each of my favorite workouts to stay comfortable.

Soul Cycle has been my absolute favorite discovery of 2013. It’s a great full-body workout, I’m absolutely drenched when I leave, and it’s genuinely fun! If you’re in New York, my favorite instructors are Parker and Lindsay. And Lindsay’s Soul Survivor (60 minute) class on Sunday mornings is life changing. I don’t know what it is, but I always leave feeling like a new person!

For Soul Cycle, I always wear compression capris and some sort of loose racerback tank! A headband and good hair tie are also essentials… Nothing kills the mood faster than having to fuss with your hair during the ride. I also like to bring a baggy tee to change into for the walk home. There have been times when I’ve forgotten a shirt to change into and it’s kind of disgusting… You’re either violating your coat when you put it on over your sopping wet shirt, or you absolutely freeze when you go outside. Or both! Always bring a spare shirt. Trust.

This is usually my go-to for hot yoga, too, but I’ll wear a fitted racerback so my shirt isn’t moving all of the place as I switch poses.

What I Wear to Soul Cycle: Active by Old Navy Printed Cami (on sale!) / Active by Old Navy Capris (on sale!) / LuluLemon Headband / SoulCycle Tee / Six Degrees Hair Band / Nike Free Runs (then switch into clip-in cycling shoes)

Up next… Workout wear for just about any activity! Whenever I take a barre or Pilates class, I usually opt for a legging of some sort (cropped in the warmer months!) and a tee. Not just some old tee shirt though.. I’ve become quite the snob about wearing moisture-wicking material. It honestly makes such a difference in your workout! And with Old Navy prices, you don’t have to spend a fortune. 🙂

Since these types of workouts aren’t too sweat-heavy, I don’t mind running a few errands before I go home and shower. I usually bring a fitted jacket or  long-sleeve tee to throw on after class so I don’t get too cold. And because these classes don’t require actual gym shoes, I almost always opt for my casual Nike Dunks for to and from.

What I Wear to Yoga/Pilates/Errands: Active by Old Navy Printed Pants (on sale!) / Active by Old Navy Mesh Top (on sale!) / Active by Old Navy Quarter-Zip with Thumb Holes (on sale!) / Nike Dunks (sold out, but loving on this floral pair!) / By Malene Birger Tote (PS – iPhone Case is Kate Spade)

Having lived in Chicago and now New York, I’ve learned that you have to take advantage of the outdoors while you can! I have major shin splint issues so I don’t run, but I love to take a walk through the park on the weekends. Perfect time to catch up with a girlfriend, get some sun, and exercise all at the same time. #efficient

For outdoor workouts in the warmer months, I prefer mesh shorts and a tank to get some color on my pasty limbs. 🙂

I totally agree about that too! Thumb holes on jackets and long sleeve shirts are a must to keep them in place when being active.

I completely agree with you about the great prices for activewear at Old Navy. I occasionally (ok, frequently) look with envy at the inventory from other brands that come into my inbox or get posted on a blog, but then I look at my available funds and head back to ON (or perhaps Kohls) to stock up on their line.

The last look is pretty much what I wear to stroller strides three days a week…only I wear a tee instead of a tank…less sun for my poor old skin. =) I’ve got three pairs of old navy running shorts and I love them!

P.S. Soul Cycle is what Kelly Rippa does, right? I can’t get through one spin class so pretty sure I would die in this class…ha ha!

Ah I love this post! I literally /live/ in workout clothes! The only problem is that at the end of the day…they can’t be mistaken for anything BUT workout clothes.

Have you heard of KiraGrace? It’s the only brand out there that works for both gym AND day wear which is fabulous for someone like me who likes to be comfy 100% of the time and still look stylish/sexy. I can definitely see the influence of designers like Kors and Herve Leger in their stuff which is just AMAZING! Their site has yoga tanks, yoga leggings and yoga pants which transition to most workouts…I’m not sure how they’d hold up in a cycling class though.

anyway check out their super cute tough cut yoga leggings. they look like something off the leger runway! >>
